The two main attractions of Apple's autumn launch this year were the iPhone 18 Pro family and the first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. Based on the official announcements, both lines are built around the A20 Pro chip, but they were designed for quite different use cases. So the question is not simply which one is newer, but which one represents a real step forward for which kind of user.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max continue the classic flagship phone line, with a strong focus on photography and premium everyday features. The iPhone Duo, by contrast, is built around a larger 7.6-inch inner display, multitasking and a new form factor, but it starts at a much higher price and differs in some respects from the familiar iPhone experience.

Waiting may also make sense if the current device still works properly and the idea of upgrading is driven more by curiosity. The Pro models usually involve less risk, whereas the Duo opens a new category for Apple, so the experiences from the first wave could matter a great deal.

According to analyst material, Apple could become a major player in the foldable market, but such forecasts are not the same as a certain market outcome. For example, the estimate that the company could capture 31 per cent of the global foldable smartphone market in 2026 is an analyst forecast, not an official fact.

In short: which one may be the better choice for whom?

Based on the officially confirmed information known so far, the iPhone 18 Pro may be the better decision for people looking for the best possible camera-focused iPhone, a mature form, Face ID and a traditional flagship smartphone experience. This appears to be the more conservative but also more predictable upgrade.

By contrast, the iPhone Duo may be exciting for anyone who values the large inner display, multitasking and the new form factor enough to accept the higher price and the compromises of a first-generation product. In this category, however, independent reviews and practical experience may matter especially much before buying.

So if the main question is whether it is worth upgrading, the answer depends on what you need. For those who want photography features and a dependable flagship device, the 18 Pro looks like the stronger choice; for those seeking the extra screen space offered by a foldable display, the Duo may be interesting, but only if the premium and the uncertainty that comes with novelty are acceptable.
