Deák Bill Gyula’s career will be commemorated with a major memorial concert at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna. According to the Broadway Ticket Office event page, the event, entitled In Memory of Bill, will take place from 8 pm on 6 March 2027, with a programme built around defining songs from the singer’s body of work.
According to information published on the event page, the concert will be staged with the support and participation of Deák Bill Gyula’s family. This provides an opportunity for the arena production not only to present the songs, but also to remain closely connected to the performer’s personal and musical legacy.
Fellow musicians and different generations will take the stage
The published line-up brings together several generations of Hungarian rock and blues musicians. According to the Broadway Ticket Office, Hobo, Tibor Tátrai, Miklós Varga, Tamás Takáts, Gergő Koltay, Ildikó Keresztes, Ibolya Oláh, György Ferenczi, Máté Gudics and Csaba Abaházi are among the invited performers.
Blues Company and the Bill band led by Kurszán Koltay will also take part in the evening. Based on the extensive line-up, audiences can expect not a conventional band concert but a career-spanning tribute centred on guest performers, with Deák Bill Gyula’s repertoire remaining at its heart throughout.
Regarding the backing band, Globalhir.hu, citing an organisers’ statement sent to MTI, reported that Ferenc Tornóczky will take part as musical director and lead guitarist, Attila Barán as bassist, Csaba Szabó as drummer and Kurszán Koltay as keyboardist. The permanent backing band may provide a cohesive musical framework for the successive appearances by guest singers and instrumentalists.
Hobo’s appearance may recall an important shared era
Hobo’s presence is particularly closely linked to this body of work, as an important period in Deák Bill Gyula’s career was connected to the Hobo Blues Band. Their work together represents a defining chapter in Hungarian blues, so Hobo’s performance can be seen not simply as a guest appearance, but also as a recollection of a long musical relationship.
According to Blikk’s report, Hobo will be able to choose which song he would like to perform at the concert. This could allow for a more personal contribution, as a fellow musician’s own decision may determine which composition he uses to pay tribute to Deák Bill Gyula.
Well-known songs may take on a new sound
The format of the memorial concert may differ from a conventional career retrospective. When several performers with distinctive voices interpret familiar songs, the audience may encounter different readings of the original compositions. The evening may therefore be more than a succession of songs, also showing how a body of work lives on through other musicians’ performances.
Given the musical backgrounds of the announced contributors, the programme may include rock, blues and folk-influenced interpretations. György Ferenczi or Blues Company may highlight different tonal qualities from Miklós Varga, Ildikó Keresztes or Ibolya Oláh, while Deák Bill Gyula’s repertoire provides the common foundation.
The final setlist has not yet been announced. According to Globalhir.hu, the programme is still being assembled, so the songs assigned to individual performers and their running order may change. The line-up already indicates the evening’s musical direction, but no specific song titles should be regarded as certain until further announcements are made.
The family’s involvement may go beyond formal support
According to the Broadway Ticket Office, the production is being prepared in collaboration with the family. This may be important because a memorial concert must faithfully evoke the familiar songs, provide space for personal tributes from fellow musicians and offer a distinctive live experience at the same time.
The performers include long-standing contemporaries, musical colleagues and representatives of other generations of artists. This arrangement may allow several perspectives to emerge without the programme losing its connection to Deák Bill Gyula’s original performing style.
Ticket prices and practical information
Tickets for the concert are already on sale, and the event is also listed on Jegy.hu. According to the ticketing website, the venue is the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna, with the announced start time set for 8 pm on 6 March 2027.
According to the Koncert.hu event page, tickets are available in five price categories: HUF 9,900, 12,900, 14,900, 16,900 and 19,900. The website states that these prices are subject to a 6 per cent fee and an additional HUF 300 convenience charge. Before purchasing, it is worth checking the current total price, available seating sections and terms of purchase on the selected ticketing platform, as these may change over time.
An arena production and personal tribute in one evening
Based on the announced contributors, In Memory of Bill is being prepared as both a large-scale arena production and a personal tribute. The family’s involvement, Hobo’s special role, the multigenerational guest line-up and the permanent backing band together promise a programme in which both the cohesion of the body of work and the performers’ individual voices may come through.
The detailed programme is still taking shape, but the date, venue, a substantial part of the line-up and ticket sales have already been confirmed. Audiences should therefore primarily expect a memorial evening that recalls Deák Bill Gyula’s songs through live performances, while also bringing the fellow musicians’ own musical identities to the stage.
